How to Prepare for Your Session?
- To ensure that remote therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy, you need to play an active role:
- Schedule your appointment in your calendar and set a reminder, just as you would for any other medical appointment.
- Choose a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed.
- Make yourself comfortable.
- Take at least 10 minutes before the session to focus and prepare.
- Select an object to use exclusively during your therapy sessions as a symbolic marker for entering and leaving this special time.
- Examples could include a scented candle, a cushion, or a similar item.
I offer consultations based on the systemic and strategic brief approach (Palo Alto school).
The sessions focus mainly on your current experience, in the "here and now" The sessions focus on your current experience,
in the "here and now". and aim to provide you with new experiences that will help you approach your difficulties differently.
The sessions are interactive : as a therapist, I actively participate in finding and implementing solutions to a problem or
with which you are confronted. As a therapist I do not specifically look for the origin of the problem , but in the belief that one can
adjust our behaviour in identifying our habits and gradually adapting them in our daily life, one rather starts to shape the "how",
by identifying the life difficulties experienced and dealing with them through purposeful interactions, thus interrupting the vicious
circles and creating new behavioural patterns. and create new behavioural patterns.
This solution-focused therapy is part of the school of thought and research that in 1950 took its name from the city of Palo Alto in
California. The formation of this school has its origins in the Macy lectures (also the source of the Cybernetics movement).
Shortly afterwards, in the early 1950s, the anthropologist Gregory BATESON developed, together with Jay HALEY
(who was largely inspired) by his long observation of the work of Milton ERICKSON, John WEAKLAND and Don JACKSON
developed the theory of the "double bind", which views mental illness as a mode of adaptation to a pathological structure of
family relationships. This theory revolutionised traditional psychiatric views and contributed to the development of the family therapy.
To study the therapeutic implications of this approach, Don JACKSON founded the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in 1959
in Palo Alto. Paul WATZLAWICK and then Richard FISCH joined the MRI and continued the work of the BATESON group.
The latter left Palo Alto in 1963 while Jay HALEY and John WEAKLAND joined the MRI.
